Reaction between Halides and Concentrated Sulfuric Acid

In this video, we look at the reactions between halides and concentrated sulfuric acid. First we look at how halides can act as reducing agents and why halides near the bottom of group 7 are more powerful reducing agents than those near the top. We then explore the reactions between the halides sodium chloride, sodium bromide and sodium iodide with concentrated sulfuric acid. We look at how some of these are examples of redox reactions.
