Disproportionation Reactions of Halogens

In this video, we look at the disproportionation reactions of halogens. First we look at what is meant by disproportionation in terms of redox. We then look at how chlorine reacts with water and how this is an example of a disproportionation reaction. We explore the potential hazards of treating drinking water with chlorine. Finally, we look at two more disproportionation reactions: the reaction between chlorine and cold, dilute aqueous sodium hydroxide and then between chlorine and hot alkali.
